Planning permission has been given by St Albans District Council (SADC) for the Rail Freight Interchange but they must now find alternatives to this ’unnecessary Development’. However the site remains designated Green Belt land, therefore prohibiting alternative plans for much needed housing or commercial space being considered by the Council. I have made enquiries from ministers and from those answers I understand that SADC has the opportunity to re-designate the land as part of their new Local Plan. I have therefore arranged a meeting between myself, the Planning Minister Gavin Barwell MP, Anne Main MP and the leader of SADC Cllr Julian Daly to discuss this in more detail. This will be taking place in the coming weeks and I will be sure to keep people updated with any further news.
